Tree Planting on Saturday March 24th

Hello everyone! So we canceled Monday's meeting because we only needed to talk about this and felt that we could just post about it on the blog.  So we are planting trees in Beaverton at Murrayhill Park. We will meet at the high school by the tennis courts around 8:15 and we have to be there at 8:45. In order to participate everyone needs to fill out a registration form on this link. Put Emma Johnson as the leader's name and make sure to bring it with you on Saturday.

Remember Emma and I can each only fit 4 other people in our cars, so if you are going please tell us in the comments and if you are bringing a friend tell us that too. Thanks so much guys and we will see you Saturday morning!

P.S. Dress appropriately a.k.a bring a rain coat and rain boats just in case of rain.

Meeting Jaunary 23

Hello my lovely people,

Today we talked about a lot of things.

Firstly,  we talked about the Fundraising porject that we are currently working on. We are trying to hold a Club Competion to raise money for C.A.S.A. Amanda had volunteered to research a little bit more about CASA and me and Emma will work on getting to an ICC meeting and getting this fundraiser running. Jordan has also been contacting resturants to see if we could hold benefit night. Also Clara  knows about a place that sells donuts by the dozen for a dime, so she was going to look into that more.

Secondly, we talked about doing some fundraisers to benefit our own club. Amanda is in charge of the walk-a-thon, and Emma is going to head the garage sale project. Also Caylee and Amanda are going to see if we could possibly hold a garage sale at their house.

Thirdly, we talked about doing some more volunteering with SOLV. We decided that Sundays and Fridays look the best and to also wait until after finals are over. I will be looking into that more.

And Finally, we talked about someone who decided that they didn't want to be in the club anymore. So Emma is still Co-President along with me. We are looking for a new Vice President as well as a person to be in Charge of publicity. Amanda is our new head of projects. Keep your eye out for people who you would like to be put into these new positions.

                                                  That is all for now,
                                                                      Spencer :)

Meeting November 14th

Hello! This is what we discussed at the meeting yesterday:

We have decided that we wanted to do at least 2 volunteer ideas before winter break. The 2 ideas we decide on are:

  • Soup Kitchen (research to be found out by Jamie)
  • Giving Tree (research to be found out by Maddie)
The other volunteer ideas we decide on along with the people who volunteered to do research on it are:

  • C.A.S.A. (Cole)
  • S.O.L.V. (Vanessa)
  • Save the Music (Sammie)
  • Spread the Word to End the Word (Spencer)
  • Adopting a street and picking up trash from it (Grace)
  • Caring Closet (Emma)
  • Habitat for Humanities (Caylee)
We also decided that we were going to participate on the December 6th Holiday Mixer (which is during access time) (research being done by our advisor, aka the wonderful Bowman). Not much information has been given, but it has been confirmed that the G.S.A. (Gay Straight Alliance) and S.T.O.P. club will also participate.

An awareness we talked about yesterday was about palm oil. It is about (please correct me if I'm wrong):

  • Found in candy and food
  • Grown by the palm plants (not really sure)
  • Usually grown in tropical areas (such as the rainforest)
  • Grown on plantations that require random holes in the middle of the forest to be made
  • Curious (?) orangatans* try to go around the holes
  • No animal is known to eat the plant
  • Plantation owners think they are
  • The plantation owners shoot them and kill them
  • Population is going down
  • DON'T EAT FOODS WITH BAD PALM OIL.
We also mentioned about Invisible Children, but more information will come soon about that later. Have a great week and Thanksgiving school free week!
